The Dust Collector
Despite not having any visible moving parts or blades, the dust collector is without a doubt the single most important machine in a woodshop. Without it, dust gets everywhere, including in your eyes, nose, mouth, and lungs. My dust collector is a .75 Horsepower Delta Dust Collector paired with an Oneida Air Systems Super Dust Deputy Cyclone Separator. The cyclone separator serves two purposes. One, it separates 99.97% of dust before it has a chance to reach the filter, greatly reducing the frequency of filter clogging and necessary filter changing. Its second purpose is to prevent large pieces of wood from damaging the impeller of the motor. By separating nearly all of particulates and solids, a cyclone can greatly increase long term filter life, suction, and collection efficiency.
